It's Great to Be 8!

Jenna is now 8 years old. To say she was excited for her birthday would be an understatement.  She didn't just walk around all day, she literally pranced.  There was a lot of smiling, giggling and general merriment all day long.  Fortunately for me she didn't have any expectations for her birthday, just the fact it was her birthday was enough for her.  I wasn't going to make a cake because she is having a friend party on Saturday, but at the last minute Britton thought we should so I shook things up a bit by putting the cake mix in a bundt pan. Really, you can't get more wild and crazy than that.  We asked Jenna what color frosting she wanted and she said blue (her favorite color) so Adam mixed up blue frosting and put it on the cake.

Ughh!!  This cake belongs in the cake "Hall of Shame".  Adam's famous last words were, "Um, don't put this on the blog." Too late.

I was asking Jenna about her day at school and what her favorite thing was and she told me that first thing in the morning Jalen (a boy in her class who has liked her for a long time) gave her a ring with a small pink heart on it.  She was telling me that she was impressed because it wasn't a plastic ring, it was a real ring and that he also gave her a homemade birthday card.  When I told Adam about this exchange later on he said that in the last week Jenna has said to him, "I wonder what Jalen will get me for my birthday."  Adam tried to prepare her for the fact that Jalen might not get her something for her birthday, but her reply was, "Oh, he'll get me something alright.  He is always giving me things and this is my birthday!" Jalen has a twin brother and an adopted sister in their same class so I know his family well, but it still makes me smile.  He is one brave boy! But apparently it is no secret that he likes Jenna. . . a lot.

Jenna is a sweetheart.  Her teacher told me that everyone in the class really likes Jenna because she is so kind, thoughtful and helpful to everyone.  When it came time to invite girls to her birthday party we had a hard time narrowing it down to 12.  Yikes. That is a lot of girls! I still have no idea what we are going to be doing at her party in 1 day, but I better figure it out soon.  It's nice to know that even though she and Britton really know how to annoy each other at home that Jenna is a good friend to everyone away from home.

Happy Birthday Jenna!
