Primary Program

I have enjoyed many primary sacrament meeting programs over the years, but I've never been in charge of one before which, by the way, changes everything! Fortunately the program today went better than I could have imagined. I wasn't really worried about it at all until our practice with all of the kids yesterday. It was absolutely crazy and the little sunbeams were completely out of control. Today I could hardly believe my eyes when they sat with their little arms folded for a good portion of the program. The only real catastrophe was when I looked down at my feet part way through the program and realized that I had put the wrong shoes on. They totally didn't match what I was wearing! The silver lining was that they at least they matched each other. One time in college I went to work at the Copy Center on campus and had been there for 4 hours before my boss looked at me with a smirk on her face and said, "Hilary, do you have another pair of shoes like that at home?" I looked down and saw that I had one brown shoe and one black shoe on. They weren't even close to being the same shoe!! I had dressed in the dark that morning as to not wake up my roommate. It was pretty embarrassing.

Suddenly Korinne has developed a pretty strong opinion about her clothes. I'm sure it has something to do with a certain older sister who is trying her best to convert Korinne to all things girly. I helped out in the nursery today and I can tell you that Korinne was the only child there wearing a fake pearl necklace with her dress. Jenna picked it out and put it on her before church and Korinne didn't take it off again until she got in her pajamas.

Trip down Memory Lane

This week I've been working on a project for Britton for Christmas. (Feel free to be impressed if you should so desire.) The only reason I'm starting this early is that I would like to do one for each of the kids and I know it is going to take a long time to get it done. I'm putting a DVD together with pictures and video from their birth until now. A little movie, if you will, of their life thus far. (Although at this point Korinne's won't be very long) I went through all of Britton's pictures this week and thought I would post some of my favorites.

On a side note, after I took this picture of Britton I let him look at himself in the mirror. He was so upset with how he looked he wanted me to clean it off immediately and has never so much as touched my makeup since. Jenna and Korinne, on the other hand, have both been guilty of getting into my makeup but they were actually quite pleased with the results. Here is Jenna a few years ago after one such incident.

One night Britton wanted his shoes on even after we put him in his pajamas. If I remember correctly he kept them on until the next morning.

Anyway, it has been kind of fun to take a look back at the last 6 years of our lives. Its amazing to me how much traveling we did during our time with Delta when the kids were small. Every picture was in a different state; Texas, California, Tennessee, Idaho, Georgia (of course), Utah, Illinois. We sure enjoyed the flight benefits while we had them, but they are long gone and now our trips to Nephi and Rexburg will have to do. (Both are swell locations I must say) We did make it to Florida during the last year so I guess that could be considered adventurous! Anyway, it is amazing how life changes from year to year without you really noticing it.

Fish Lips

Jenna quietly colored this picture during church today. Only in Jenna's world do fish wear pink lipstick. It made me laugh. She is such a girly girl and it is reflected in everything she does.

A sad goodbye

A little over a week ago my cousin Loni was only 4 days away from her due date and happily awaiting the arrival of her first child. She noticed one night she hadn't felt the baby move for a few hours and when she went into the Doctor first thing the next morning her worst fears were realized, her son JP had died. She then had to endure a 15 hour labor before delivering the 8 lb 8 oz perfectly formed baby who would never take a breath. It has been a sad and difficult week. Adam worked with Loni's husband Troy a while back at Academy Mtg. so we know them quite well. We attended the viewing and graveside service yesterday for little John Paul "JP" Domina. As you can imagine it was very emotional.

You just don't see these things coming but I'm glad that Troy and Loni decided to have a funeral and invite all of us to mourn with them. I'm sure it will help provide closure and healing in the months and years ahead.

The tooth fairy is going broke at our house. Britton's teeth are coming out so fast he is starting to look like a real genuine hillbilly.

Two more of his front teeth are lose. They will probably come out right before his school pictures where he will be sporting a toothless smile. Meanwhile the tooth fairy has had to scramble when teeth come out just before bed and she realizes she doesn't have the correct change. . .or any change at all for that matter! Last time Britton got 14 pennies with his dimes and nickles. Good thing he thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Yesterday morning it was just me and the girls home and I got out my ABBA Gold CD so the girls could dance. They had never heard ABBA before and really loved it. I walked into the kitchen and Korinne was up on the counter dancing. She is such a funny kid. After putting her safely back on the floor I told Jenna my favorite ABBA songs were "Super Trooper" and "Dancing Queen." She proceeded to switch the CD to the song she said was her new favorite. It was "Money, Money, Money" . Um, I really hope it was the catchy tune and not the message that drew her in or we are really in trouble! :-)

The lights are on but no one is home!

We spent a great deal of time yesterday replacing our outdoor light fixtures on the front of our house. It should have been a rather small job but each time we were sure we had the new light fixtures wired correctly and flipped the breaker switch, they wouldn't turn on. We changed light fixtures, we changed bulbs, we tried everything we could possibly think to try. After several hours we were ready to just give up and call an electrician. It was then that Adam saw something at the bottom of the box that said, "From Dusk 'til Dawn; turns on automatically at dusk and turns off at dawn. No special timers needed." We hadn't realized that the fixtures we had purchased had such a feature and that the reason they weren't turning on was because it was still full daylight. DON'T YOU THINK THEY SHOULD MAKE THAT A LITTLE MORE CLEAR IN THE INSTRUCTIONS!?! Not a word was said in the instructions, only on the bottom corner of the box. After 4 hours of frustration and questioning our own intelligence we discovered they had been correctly installed the entire time. As soon as dusk arrived they turned on and worked perfectly. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. We are pretty tempted to write a strongly worded letter to the company and tell them to at least mention it in the instructions, we can't be the only people ever to have such difficulties.

Britton lost one of his front teeth on Friday. It had been loose for a long time and really needed to come out, but it was nothing a little dental floss and Grandma Price couldn't handle. She popped it right out and Britton said it didn't even hurt when she did it. He is starting to look like a Jack-o-Lantern so I guess it is good that Halloween will be here before we know it. He has several more teeth that are loose. As you can see the tooth fairy is his main source of income right now.

Adam passed his real estate test this week to get his license. He is happy to be done with classes and to move on. Now he can start developing all of his business ideas.

Where were you?

I woke up this morning to find the scouts had placed a flag in our yard. This usually happens on holidays like Labor Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, etc. and for awhile I couldn't figure out why the flag was put there on a random Tuesday. Then it hit me. . .ahhh, today is Tuesday, September 11th. Wow, it has been six years. Where were you on that day? We all know where we were, what we were doing and who we were with. I was listening to a country music station in the car this afternoon when they started playing a bunch of songs about 9/11 with voice-overs in the music. Some of them were messages victims had left on answering machines while trapped in the towers, some were from kids, some were firefighters talking about all of their buddies who had died. It brought me back to that day and I started to get a little teary eyed. Then I looked at my kids. Britton was 3 weeks old when it happened. The girls weren't even thought of yet. Having me tell them about what is was like on that Sept. 11th will be like having my grandparents talk about Pearl Harbor. Anyway, it just kind of puts things in perspective.

This is the Ground Zero Flag on display in Washington D.C. over Memorial Day in 2002. Britton was about 9 mo. old in the picture with Adam.

Jenna started dance today. She will be doing tap and ballet and had a great time. Britton has another soccer game tonight. The fun never stops. A few days ago Jenna got in one of Britton's old soccer uniforms so the two of them could practice and play in the back yard. Only Jenna would make sure the shorts were tucked in properly and wear a matching necklace. Its all about the details when she puts her outfits together. Korinne saw me taking pictures and ran over to make sure she was in this one. It was almost as if she was saying, "Wait, shouldn't I be in this picture?" I'm not sure who she learned that from. . .Adam, I guess. :-)

Good Morning

On Sunday mornings Adam and I have a goal to sleep in as long as we possibly can, our kids have a goal to get us up as early as possible. . .I'm sure you can probably guess who usually wins. This morning I woke up to Britton starting his usual morning tactic, "Dad, its 7:12. Come on Dad, get up." Adam is, of course, doing his best to stall, "Run out and get the paper and look and see who won all of the games yesterday." Britton was undetered, "Dad, it's now 7:15" Let me back track a little, when I said it was their goal to get US up as early as possible, I really meant to say HIM. Adam is the fun parent who is significantly more likely to make them a big and yummy breakfast, especially on a Sunday. With me they pretty much know they will get to decide between various cold cereals and oatmeal, but with Adam, the sky is the limit. If you were a kid, who would you try and wake up? Exactly. After a significant amount of coaxing and with Korinne crying in the other room and me pushing Adam out of the bed from my side while Britton is working from the other side he got up at 7:30ish. He laughed when I mumbled, "Thanks for taking one for the team." We all know once Adam is up they will always immediately leave the room and I have a few more minutes to rest. When I did get into the kitchen a few minutes later, everyone was happily eating their scrambled eggs, toast and hot chocolate. Not a bowl of cereal or oatmeal to be seen. A victory to be sure. There have been some Sunday mornings when I have come into the kitchen to see homemade cinnamon rolls rising. "Are you making cinnamon rolls from scratch?!?" His reply, "Yeah, they said they wanted cinnamon rolls." Like I said, who would YOU try and wake up in the morning?

Yesterday Britton had his first soccer game of the fall season. They have named themselves the Sharks and had a great time. The game was at noon but Britton was dressed in his uniform by 8:00 a.m. and stayed in it for the rest of the day. I think he even try to declare them to be his pajamas when it was time to go to bed. What a funny kid.

Adam and my Dad got tile layed in our main bathroom yesterday. We will still need to grout it tomorrow, but already you can see it will make such a difference. Yesterday marked our 4 year anniversary of moving into our current house. Wow, time flies! We realized that of the 14 siblings we have between the 2 of us, that only my sister Tiffany in San Antonio, Texas has lived in her house longer than we have lived in ours. Everyone else has moved at least once during that time and some a few more times than that. Perhaps that makes us boring. . .perhaps it makes us sane. I guess it depends on how you look at it. :-)
