Lip Sync Showdown

As a fundraiser for Trek in August the youth organized a "Lip Sync Showdown" this week. The entire ward was invited to watch the event and make a donation if they felt so inclined.  They had members of the Stake Presidency and 2 members of the High Council come and be unbiased "judges" for the contest and they had 11 entries.  It was such a fun night and everybody was thoroughly entertained.

Jenna and the Beehives did a lip sync to "I Feel Happy" from Despicable Me.

Britton and the Teachers opted for "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles.  I had absolutely no expectations so when they came out with a yellow submarine and bubble machine I was impressed. Britton and Britton were the two dancing guys with boat ores that appeared on stage for the chorus. Britton P was a little more enthusiastic than Britton C. so we had fun calling him the "left shark" the rest of the night.  Remember a few years ago at the Superbowl when Katy Perry's left shark dancer was more enthusiastic than the right shark dancer?  The Internet had a hay-day and the term "left shark" was born.

Even the Bishopric came up with something. They used a trimmed version of "Hello" by Adele. They used a cover version sung by a male and then cut it down to only the lyrics that would also apply to trying to get speakers for sacrament meeting.  "Hello, it's me, I've been wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet, to go over everything. . "

The best was the chorus "Hello from the other side, I must have called a thousand times,  but you never seem to be home. . . .at least you know that I tried."  They ended with "We both know that we are running out of time." Ha. Very clever Bishopric.

After a short deliberation by the Judges (and a few stupid human tricks from the audience) the winners were announced.  Who came out on top?  The Teachers with their rendition of "The Yellow Submarine".  They all received their own personal blow up microphone.

Mason, Britton P. and Britton with their "trophies". Good job boys!

Wednesday night Jenna had an orchestra concert. I appreciated her wearing bright green, she was very easy to find.

Britton had a late soccer practice that night, 8:30-10 p.m. and I also had book club so we were triple booked.  Adam took the boys to practice and I hit the concert and book club after going home and to get Jmo in bed.  Britton's soccer team has now been reorganized for spring.  Although he is still in 8th grade most of the kids on his team are in 9th grade and as such were able to try out for high school teams.  Now that tryouts are over 2 of the club teams have combined with the remaining boys.

We finally got Adam's car back from the body shop.  It was kind of fun to drive different cars around for a few weeks, but it's nice to have our car back.  Our dishwasher died a painful death last week.  It has never been a good dishwasher, and has struggled for some time, but it finally went to the point of no return.  We have no plans to replace it right now so the kids are getting an education in how most of the world washes dishes, by hand.  Before we can get a dishwasher we need to get a dryer.  Our dryer has been on it's last leg for about a year. We do SO much laundry and our 16 year old dryer makes a deafening screeching sound whenever it's in use. I really need to get some earplugs. See what fun purchases we get to make in the near future? Good times.

The Lip Sync sounded fun. Congrats to Britton's group. Wish we could have gone to your concert, Jenna. Keep up the good work.
