Vote for Pedro

After the family reunion the party continued as a few of my siblings were still in town for another week.  Living close to my parents has its perks and this is one of them, I get to spent more time with anyone that is in town visiting my parents.

One of the things we've had on our list of things to do when family is in town is to go to Preston, Idaho for a Napoleon Dynamite tour.  My neighbor, Carrie, grew up in Preston and said she would be willing to go with us and show us around any time we wanted to go.  On Monday it was raining cats and dogs and we didn't have anything else going on when the idea was thrown out to go to Preston before my brother-in-law Shawn flew home the next morning. I'm pretty sure Shawn is the biggest Napoleon fan on the planet.  It didn't take us long to have 2 car loads of people ready to go. Shawn, Tiffany and Abigail, Jeff and Libbie and their kids Benson, Sadie and Xander, our entire family and of course, Carrie. Napoleon Dynamite came out over 10 years ago, but now our kids are getting into the movie and it remains a cult classic

We started out with the tether-ball location. 

And moved onto the high school.

I have to admit that if Carrie hadn't been with us I don't think we would have been brave enough to go inside the school, especially in the middle of the summer, but Carrie went to high school there and knew it would be open so she marched right in and just waved to the secretaries as we passed by.

Ok, the lockers crack me up.  First of all there is no color pattern whatsoever. They are completely random throughout the entire school.

Benson even did part of the dance from memory for us.  Too bad he wasn't wearing moon boots. :-)

It was so entertaining and Shawn was more than willing to recite all of the famous lines from each location.  He looked just like a kid in a candy store and knew the movie backwards and forwards.

It was also really cool to get some of the inside scoop from Carrie.  She went to High School with the guy who made the movie and had a lot of insights for us.  Preston is a quirky little town and definitely inspired a lot of what happened in the movie.

DI anyone?

Ok, we may or may not have gotten a bit sidetracked at the DI.  I think everyone walked out of there with a small bag of "treasures".  Hey, there was some good stuff there, Gosh!

I love that the town still embraces it's claim to fame.

We went to a few more locations and all came home and watched the movie so we could experience it all over again. It was definitely a great way to spend a rainy day with family.
