For the first time in over a month Adam and Britton were actually home on Saturday instead of traveling all day for away soccer games. With great weather we were able to clean out our garage and get everything ready for winter. We also spent some time inside getting a few things done that never quite get done.
One of our indoor projects was to set up a full bed in Jenna's room. Korinne has a full bed in her room so why did we feel the need to put another full bed in Jenna's room? Well, it's all an attempt to help solve Jameson's "sleeping problems". Jameson is easily scared and I'm sure all of the October Halloween stuff didn't help him at all. He was getting up 2 and 3 times a night screaming and knocking so loudly on his door for us to get him that he would wake everyone up. We tried night lights, lamps, and even let him leave the light on all night long but the only thing that would help him sleep would be to lay down on his floor and wait for him to go back to sleep, or let him come into our bed. Neither option was working for me. Finally it dawned on me that he just needed someone in the room with him at night and it didn't have to be Adam or me. We asked Korinne if she would be ok with him sleeping in her room sometimes and she was cool with it so last Sunday night we tried it. Jameson didn't make a peep all night long and it was the best night's sleep we've had in a long time. We had another full bed stored in the basement so we decided to put it in Jenna's room to give Jameson and the girls more options. We've just got to get him through this phase and fortunately Jameson has some great sisters who are willing to help. Our new plan has gone well all week so let's hope it continues.
While we were setting up the bed in Jenna's room Jameson was trying to watch something on Adam's phone. He was standing by Jenna's old bed when we moved the bed a few feet with the phone on it. Jameson said, "Whoa. . .What the heck, Dad?!?" We all just kind of stopped and looked at each other and burst out laughing. Did he just say, "What the heck, Dad!?" It always sounds so funny coming from a 2 year old.
Anyone else find it fun to walk into the kitchen on a Sunday morning and find their toddler helping themselves to a breakfast of brown sugar? He had it all over the stove and counter just for good measure. Agh. Hey, at least he was using a spoon, right? Just trying to find the bright side to this story. . .
Ok, one more Jameson story. One of the tricks I have up my sleeve with him on nights when I know it is going to be really hard for him to go to bed is melatonin. I only give him a few drops but he thinks its really yummy and it works like a charm--after 20 min. he's asleep every time. Adam is usually gone on Sundays from about 8-5 but last Sunday he came home for 45 min. on a break since tithing settlements are about to start and he won't see us at all for a few Sundays. Well, around noon we were in the kitchen talking when Adam noticed that Jameson had somehow managed to find the melatonin high up in the cupboard, had gotten it open and ingested some of it. We don't know how much he took before we got to him, but it was enough to make him say, "Mmm, that's yummy!" Oh dear. I always wondered what would happen if we gave it to him in the middle of the day and I was about to find out. Our church starts at 1:00 but by 12:20 I could see he was about to fall asleep. I thought it would be better to be at the church and have him fall asleep on my lap in the chapel than try and transport him once he was asleep so we rushed off to church. By 12:30 p.m. I was sitting in the chapel with Jameson sleeping soundly. Needless to say we were the first ones there. He slept for 1 1/2 hours on my lap and when he did finally wake up at the end of the meeting it took him awhile to get going. While I certainly don't condone "drugging" your child before church (it's an all natural supplement, but still. . ) it was kind of nice to have him so quiet and still for Sacrament Meeting. I guess if he is going to get into something he shouldn't before church I'll secretly hope its the melatonin and not the brown sugar!
We got a letter in the mail this week informing us that Jenna had been selected as one of the "Students of the Month" at her middle school. She was nominated by one of her teachers, Mr. Christensen, for her "outstanding citizenship, academic effort and willingness to do her best."
Her picture will hang in the hallway all month, but the real reward is a "front of the lunch line" pass good for her and a friend for the entire month of November. Cool. Congrats Jenna!
