Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Lura Melba Hoopes Eksund passed away at the age of 97 on June 5, 2012, at her daughter’s home in St. George, Utah.
She was born April 21, 1915 in Lyman, Wyoming to Joseph Orvel Hoopes and Eva Myrtle Smith. At the age of 4, she traveled by covered wagon to Whiterocks, Utah where she grew up on a 40 acre farm. She was very talented in crocheting and made many beautiful doilies and afghans.
She was married to Ronald Arney Eksund on May 2, 1936. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on October 5, 1936.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, one of her greatest joys was attending the Temple.
She brightened the lives of all who knew her and was always giving hugs. She was truly a joy to be around. She was an angel. She will be greatly missed by her large posterity, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald who died exactly 9 years to the day before her, also her son-in-law Elvin Dee Morrill.
Melba is survived by her 3 daughters, 23 grandchildren, 87 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.
A special thanks to Zion’s Way Hospice and especially to her nurse Jason. They were very kind and helpful.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the 3rd ward chapel in Roosevelt, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30-10:45 A.M. Interment will be in the Tridell Cemetery, Tridell, Uintah, Utah.
We last saw Grammie over spring break in April. She got to meet Jameson and loved his smiles. We will really miss Grammie!
