Soda Springs

For our first family reunion of the summer we headed to unknown territory-- Soda Springs.  I remember seeing it on road signs growing up, but that was it.  My parents rented a 5 bedroom house for a few nights and all available family members made the journey to this exotic (ok, perhaps remote would be a more accurate word) location.

I have 6 siblings that are scattered all over the country and this was the year that only 2 of us made it to the reunion.  My kids decided that it wasn't really a reunion, it was more like a family get-together. Whatever it was we had a great time.

Now, you may be asking yourself, what's in Soda Springs?? Well, nothing. BUT, it is really close to Lava Hot Springs which is where we spent our time.  The crowds were down on Mondays so we didn't have to wait in any lines for the water slides.

We all got to go on these big water slides.  My favorite was the purple one that just went straight down.  The yellow one had a little bump in the middle that supposedly slowed you down, but really it just made my swimming suit go into places I didn't even know existed.  If you like getting enemas then the yellow slide is the slide for you.  Grandma was brave and went on both of them.  I really wish I had a picture of her reaction when she got to the bottom of the yellow one-- it was priceless!  The kids enjoyed swimming with Grandma.

This was Jameson's first swimming pool experience.

We only put his feet in the water and he didn't have much of a response.  Perhaps the jury is out on the whole swimming thing.

After a few hours at the pool and water slides we headed 4 blocks over to the hot springs.  I really liked it and kept thinking how great it would be to come in the middle of winter.  My parents hadn't been in 30 years and confirmed that they had really "upped the program".

Then it was back to Soda Springs to see the geyser. Yes, Soda Springs has it's very own geyser that goes off every hour on the hour.

Ooohhhh, Ahhhhhh

We came, we saw, we conquered.  It was short and sweet and a good time was had by all.

What a cool grandma to brave the enema slide! We passed Lava Hot Springs on the way home from our trip last summer and promised the kids that we'd go there someday. Maybe this will be the year. Do you remember the height restrictions on the slides? I don't want to go before Abby is tall enough to really have fun.
