The Week of Everything

Wow. This was the week of everything.  Multiple events every day ending with a 40th birthday celebration. It was a lot so buckle your seat belt and hang on!

To start things out I had a hair appt on Monday to get a cut and highlights.  I didn't really want highlights, but these days the gray hairs are giving the brown hairs a run for their money.

Britton had a soccer game that night and as per family policy all Monday night soccer games are attended by the entire family since it turns into the FHE activity.  When I left the house at 4:40 p.m. the sun was out and it was beautiful, by game time when the rest of the family arrived it wasn't looking good.

It rained a LOT and was windy and cold.  Jenna stayed in the car and read a book.  Jameson went back and forth a lot and Korinne toughed it out with Adam and me.

Britton's team won and we got Aggie Ice Cream for our treat so it was all good.

Tuesday dawned a little chilly and windy, but the Wellsville Mile stops at nothing.  1300 4th and 5th graders from 9 different elementary schools gathered for the 35th running of the Wellsville Mile and Korinne was there with bells on.

She ran in the 2nd heat of the 4th grade girls and can be seen in the orange shirt with capri workout pants on the left.

There are over 100 kids in each of the 12 heats. Korinne's goal was to get under 10 min so she was thrilled to cross the line in 9:02.

The kids are there from 10 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. so it is basically an all day recess and big party.  It was a little weird for me to be wearing a sweater this year as usually the weather for the Wellsville Mile is HOT, but it was also nice for the kids to run in cooler temperatures..

Back at the ranch we had our carpets cleaned on Tuesday.  It was much needed, but a pain as usual.

Wednesday morning was the "Breakfast of Champions" at Jenna's school for the kids who got a 4.0 all school year.  They always give the kids a small box of Wheaties with their picture on it, a medal and a cinnamon roll with juice.

This is all well and good right up until the 7th graders have to be there at 6:30 a.m. with their parents. Um, that's a little early for me. Last year Britton told us he didn't want to go and would rather go get a yummier cinnamon roll from Great Harvest.  Adam complied and Jenna didn't forget about it.  This year she was ready with her own breakfast request with Dad in lieu of the Breakfast of Champions.  So, she was a no show at school but had a great breakfast with Dad at Chick-fil-a.

Britton has expressed a desire to run cross country next year so when we found out about a meeting for all students interested in XC at the new high school and their parents on Wednesday night we made sure to be there.  The current high school has an amazing cross country program. They have had upwards of 100 students on the team and really have it up and running well. Well, guess what? The 3 cross country coaches that all work together and have been together for 16 years (1 female, 2 males) are all moving to the new high school next year and are bringing the program with them!  I was more than a little surprised when they passed out training schedules and team training runs start on June 6th and are every day at 6 a.m. instead of beginning in August when I was in high school. (So much for sleeping in this summer)  I'm excited for Britton.  How fun to be a part of a program that is so well organized and established.  The room was packed with kids and Britton's best friend, Collin, is also running. He wants to do it so he can be in better shape for soccer but you might as well have fun in the process, right?

After the XC meeting we had to go straight to the school for Britton's orchestra concert.  I found out the day before that he had a solo part in one of the songs.  A violin solo starts the song and then Britton comes in with a duet cello part. He did an awesome job!  Unfortunately I was the only one there to see it in person but you can click here to see the video: Britton's orchestra solo No need to watch the entire song, the solos are at the beginning.

Jameson's last day of Joy School was on Thursday.  My friend Carrie invited all the Moms in the neighborhood over for a little afternoon get together before school gets out in 2 weeks. We all know that once school is out things are going to get a little crazy around the neighborhood. :-)

I had to leave the party a bit early to get to the 4th Grade Opera.  Yes, it's a opera put on by 4th graders and was even written by local 4th graders about 8 years ago.  It's called, "Bear Lake Monster".  This doesn't mean they sang it in "opera" style, it just means that there are no spoken words in the program. Korinne was cast as part of the family.  Other kids were Indians, pioneers and mountain men.  I was glad she was part of the family and could dress in normal clothes so I didn't have to come up with a costume like the other Moms.

Here is the "family" in their car on the way to Bear Lake. Korinne is in the blue and white striped shirt 4th from the back.

The kids did a great job.  Korinne even got to sing a line of the song as a solo.

There are four 4th grade classes at the school.  2 classes performed it on Wednesday and the other 2 classes did the same show on Thursday.  Wow. The music teacher really went above and beyond this year. That is a lot of work to do it all twice!

Later that night Korinne played at a piano recital and played her 2 songs perfectly.

On Friday afternoon I drove to Ogden to have lunch with some of my K-1 friends.  Cyd turned 40 this week and was in Ogden to run the Ogden half marathon so she called in the locals for a lunch.  It has been too long since I've had some quality K-1 time and fortunately I don't think Kneaders minded that we occupied our table for about 2 1/2 hours.

Later that night Adam's birthday celebration began.  We went to dinner with several friends to start off the festivities.

The wait staff assured him he didn't look a day over 39. ;-)

The next morning we started Adam's 40th birthday off with a . . . . wet and rainy soccer game.  Why have just one cold and wet soccer game in a week when you can have two?  It was the last game of the season and if the boys won they would be the 1st place team in the division.  Fortunately there was a parking lot that went right up to the field so the parents could all see the game from their cars.

Every time the boys scored a goal the parents would honk their horns.  It kind of reminded me of the world cup. :-)

So wet and cold.  As a birthday surprise I showed up with some hot chocolate from the nearby Maverick. Definitely a first for a May 21st birthday.

It rained cats and dogs for the entire 90 min. game and then abruptly stopped when it ended and was sunny for the rest of the day. Go figure.

The team was thrilled to win both the game and the division.  Final score 4-1.

Back at the house we had the birthday decorations up.

Adam and I went to lunch at Even Stevens, a new restaurant in town that gives a sandwich to those in need for every sandwich they sell.  They also just happen to have delicious and unique sandwiches. Then we went to the temple to do sealings for a lot of the families that Britton found doing family history. Later that night we all went to Firehouse for his official birthday dinner.

But the fun didn't stop there, we returned home for the rest of the party.

Our family often quotes from the movie "The Three Amigos".  If you remember the movie at all the villain, El Guapo, turns 40 years old in one scene and his cronies buy him a unique gift for their location and circumstance.  You can check out the scene here: Three Amigos, It's a Sweater!

Unbeknownst to Adam we decided that everyone turning 40 needed a sweater even if it was the end of May.  I can't help but laugh that Adam started quoting the movie before he even saw what was in the box.

He also received a Fitbit, some socks and a water bottle. After presents it was time for the pinata. Yes, a pinata. Another quote from El Guapo, "Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?"  I was able to find a basketball pinata just for Adam.  This was Jameson's favorite part of the party, of course.

It's been a LONG time since Adam has had the chance to hit a pinata as hard as he could.

The pinata was a hit, mostly because it was so unconventional for such a birthday celebration.  We had ice cream and then started getting Jameson to bed.  Hopefully it was a good birthday for Adam.  The Primary kids in the ward signed a big birthday card and sang a Happy Birthday song to him at church today.  He is truly loved by all who know him.

Congratulations for making it to the end of this post. Whew.  We'll see what next week brings. . .
