Almost There

The week started out with a piano recital for Britton and Jenna.  

Their teacher has 68 students and even though she does 2 recitals, they are still quite lengthy. Fortunately we were able to leave Jameson at home with Korinne.

On Tuesday night I was supposed to help the Priests in the ward learn how to index so they could do some family history challenge before a stake youth conference on June 18th.  One of the Priest advisors had sm'ores and other goodies on hand to try and get the boys to come, but when none of them showed up they told us to call our kids and have them come over.  Someone should benefit from their preparations, right?  So we had a nice little impromptu Tuesday night party.

In the end 2 Priests did show up (almost an hour late) but by that time the sm'ore party was in full swing so they jumped right into the food and we didn't end up doing any indexing.  Maybe that was part of their plan. . .

Uncle Stephen came to visit on Tuesday and Wednesday and brought his dog Wally with him.

Jmo and Korinne really love Wally.  I was glad Wally is potty trained and doesn't bark very much.

Jenna had her last orchestra concert of the year on Thursday night and received an award for Honor Roll and citizenship at an awards assembly Friday morning.

Friday was the day the 4th Graders did their "Celebrate our State" program.  They had to make a float of the county they were assigned and include all sorts of information about it.  Having a big project due at the end of May is brutal on parents, but fortunately Korinne really stepped up and did almost all of it on her own.  We just had to help her with the hot glue gun, and attaching the float to a toy dump truck so it would be on wheels for the parade. The kids had the option of dressing up as a Native American, Pioneer or Mountain Man, on program day just for fun.  Korinne took it upon herself to come up with a Native American costume and I was impressed with the result.

The kids wheeled their floats in front of the school for parents and then we all went inside for the singing portion of the program.

It was a nice program with catchy songs to help the kids learn all about our state.

"This is the place."

I had to bring Jameson with me on this one. There were a few times he said in a not so quiet voice, "Mom, I'm getting bored", but he got through it and even enjoyed some of it.

On Saturday I went on a morning bike ride and came home to find Adam painting the mud room.  It needed it badly since we had to have a hole repaired in one of the walls and hadn't repainted it yet. We decided to be wild and crazy and change up the color a bit. 

It didn't take us long to discover why we avoid painting. Some of our kids really want to "help" but don't quite have the skills.  It was a battle all.day.long.  At one point I came around the corner and found this:

Wow. What could possible go wrong with this scenario??  If you know Jameson at all you know that he doesn't take "no" for an answer and he doesn't ask permission either.  He is a very independent "I'll do it myself" kind of guy so if you leave for just a second you might come back to a 4 year old, in his swimming suit, on a ladder getting paint all over the wall and everything else.

We aren't in a hurry to paint again anytime soon, but unfortunately there are too many places in our house that are in desperate need of painting so we will be forced into it, I'm sure. Agh.

This morning I could hear paper ripping and went upstairs to investigate.  Jameson was wrapping a present for Dad.  

He had gotten all the supplies together on his own and actually did a pretty good job. His determination will definitely serve him well in life. . .if we can all just make it through these first few years. :-) What was the present? One of his own toy cars.  He just wanted to wrap something for Daddy.
