Farewell

Stalwart, faithful servant, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on April 28, 2011 at his home in Mapleton, UT at the age of 97.


Born to Annie S. and Robert M. Kerr in Ora, Idaho on April 7, 1914. He was the oldest of five children and is survived by Douglas L. Kerr, brother, and Coral Clifford, sister. Preceded in death by brothers, Lyman S. and Joseph (Jay) Kerr.
He was an exceptionally hard worker and excelled in school and everything he did. He graduated with a law degree from the University of Idaho in 1936 at age 22. He served as an assistant to the Attorney General for the State of Idaho, BIngham County prosecutor, and maintained an active legal practice for 66 years. He was the oldest continually licensed attorney in the State of Idaho for 73 years.
He was a flight instructor in the Army Air Corp during WW II. Active in the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life, he served as President of the Tendoy Scout Council and was awarded the Silver Beaver.
As a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints his church service included over 20 years in the stake presidency, including stake president, and a counselor to two temple presidents in the Idaho Falls Temple. Joyful to him were the many temple weddings he performed for his grandchildren.
He married Aloha McMurray on April 1, 1942 in the Logan temple. Together they had five children, Steven, Kristen K. Price (Steve), Gregory, Cathy Stringham (Clay) and Jackie Lofthouse (Val). Aloha passed away on Sept. 23, 1969.

He married Ann Thueson Kerr on June 4, 1970. Together with her four children, Byron Thueson (Raylene), Deanne Pace (John), Kelley Thueson (Karen), and Michelle Rigby (Blake) they had a marvelous combined family who have enjoyed sweet companionship for over 40 years. They have a posterity of 54 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren, all of whom loved and adored their patriarch fisherman.

The family expresses thanks to their hospice caregivers and doctors who so lovingly assisted them this past month. They request memorial donations be give to the perpetual education fund, the missionary fund, or the humanitarian fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 1, from 6-7 at the Mapleton 1st Ward, 31 West Maple St., Mapleton, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the Blackfoot Stake Center, 1650 Highland Dr., Blackfoot, Idaho at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 3rd with a viewing preceding from 11-12.
