Every Friday in May the high school PTA planned events to honor the Seniors who were missing out on the last few months of high school. The first Friday they asked all of the parents of Seniors to decorate the front door of their house and then post the pictures on social media.
Britton- Class of 2020
With demand for fuel bottoming out the price of gas plummeted during the quarantine. I had to take a picture when I filled up the car for $1.87/ gallon since I'm sure it will never happen again.
For the last few months Adam has been heavily recruited by 2 different mortgage companies. He has only ever changed companies once in the 16 years he has been in the industry because he recognizes that everyone is all talk and it is never really better anywhere else. The only reason that he was considering a change this time was because one of the companies was in the process of getting an agreement to work with a huge builder in the valley and was promising Adam would be one of the lenders on the account. Even with this builder account there are a few factors that haven't made this decision a slam dunk and they could sense that Adam was wavering in his tentative decision to move to the new company so one day, out of the blue, the recruiter had a party pack of Crumbl cookies and ice cream delivered to our house.
It was such a pleasant surprise for 5 kids who had been stuck at home for 7 weeks straight.
Britton was one of the 892 Utah high school senior boy soccer players featured in the Deseret News. They had all of the schools submit pictures of their seniors which could then be viewed by clicking on the name of the high school in the article. Britton was 1 of only 3 seniors on the Ridgeline soccer team that didn't get to play their last season. It was sad especially since soccer has played such a big role in his life and this season was set to be his biggest season yet. But, of course, Britton handled it well. At least there were 891 other seniors in the same boat.
Another Senior Friday. The High School put a picture sign of every.single.senior in Ridgeline's class of 2020 on the road to the high school. At the end of the week they invited each family to come and retrieve their student's sign. It was an impressive site to see so many signs lining both sides of the street.
Britton went to the school a few times in May to film footage for the the virtual graduation ceremony. This was on a Tuesday morning at like 11:00 a.m. a few weeks before the broadcast but he still looks legit. This was the morning it finally started to hit me that he was actually going to graduate. The white sash was for being Valedictorian, the green sash was for being a member of the student executive council, and the blue ropes were for all of his many service hours.
I took this picture of Jenna's bed one morning because it pretty much sums up AJ's relationship to her. He often will go into her room during the night and climb into her bed. She pushes him over to the other side, but he ALWAYS finds his way back to her pillow because he likes to sleep as close as possible to her.
Jenna is a good sport. She never complains about her pint sized beg hog.
Jenna is always on the lookout for scholarship essay contests so when she saw one on the district website about the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Women's suffrage movement she threw an essay together in less than an hour and submitted it. I didn't know anything about it, of course, so I was quite surprised when I received a phone call informing me that Jenna had won the contest in the High School division and would receive a $500 cash prize, be featured in the local newspaper and on Utah NPR radio and would receive an award at a special ceremony.

Britton and Jenna were also busy taking AP tests in May. Jenna and her friends have a inspiration board they made from all of their favorite male movie characters that they pass around. Jenna made sure she had custody of the board for her AP tests and then set it up behind the computer for good vibes. I thought it was hilarious so I made sure to document the moment.
On May 15th Britton got a surprise visit from Mr. Wade, the head of the English department at the high school, informing him that he had been selected as the English Department Student of the Year for Ridgeline.
He also received Academic All-State honors in both Boys Soccer and Theater.
With all of the kids summer camps and activities being canceled I started looking around for something the boys could do this summer and found a martial arts studio near our home. In the middle of May I took them in for a free class so they could try it out.
Fortunately they loved it so we signed them up on the spot. It really is the perfect activity for active boys and they can go up to 5 times a week. They have to have their temperature taken before class and extra precautions are being taken, but it is open and running and gives them something to do. Yay!

As the end of the school year approached the schools created a "drive-by" schedule so that every family could return anything they needed to return to the school, pay any remaining fees, retrieve belongings left in their school locker and pick up end of year awards and yearbooks.

The ward did a drive-by parade for all of the graduating Seniors in the ward so Britton got to stand out in the driveway and wave to all of the ward members honking and throwing out presents to him.
Adam celebrated his 44th Birthday on May 21st and for some reason this is the only picture I have. Oops. Happy Birthday Adam!
At the end of the month the graduations began. AJ graduated from Preschool so they had a drive-by graduation instead of a program for the families.

On Wednesday, May 26th, Britton had his Senior "Graduation Moment" at the high school. While their actual graduation ceremony was virtual and broadcast on the evening of the 28th of May, the high school administration still wanted each senior to have a special graduation moment so for 8 hours over the course of 2 nights every senior in the class of 2020 and their immediate family was given a time to come to the school, walk across the stage and have their name called over the loudspeaker and receive their high school diploma.

Britton was on the big banner of seniors playing spring sports so I had him pose by his soccer picture.
After his "graduation moment" we took the older kids out to dinner at Firehouse.
I was in Layton with Jenna when the 6 p.m. broadcast of Britton's Graduation started on KSL so I watched it in the car while I waited for Jenna to finish dancing. Not exactly how I imagined my oldest child's High School Graduation, but we're flexible. 😄

What a unique senior year and graduation experience for Britton. Fortunately he takes unique in stride! Thanks for posting. There were a lot of things I didn't even know about. Your family is amazing!
